Paving a Path of Opportunity at Ngern Tid Lor

Paving a Path of Opportunity at Ngern Tid Lor

“I think TIDLOR Core Values that best reflects who I am is Experiment to Lead Change. I have never been afraid of failure. Well, if I fail, I will learn from my mistake and start over. This mindset allows me to always be ready to embrace new possibilities and challenges.”

Ngern Tid Lor believes that employees’ growth journey can well reflect the core values of the organization they belong to. This is also true for Mr. Theewin Jidsathaporn, SVP Analytics & Development (A&D), Ngern Tid Lor Public Company Limited.

Theewin graduated with an engineering degree and spent 13 years working in this field. But because of his thirst for wisdom and courage to lead change, he pushed himself out of his comfort zone and decided to pursue a master’s degree in business economics and started working with Ngern Tid Lor. This decision led Theewin to many more opportunities that allowed him to discover his potential and advance in his career while helping building the organization.

Opportunity to Discover Your Potential from Experiment

Theewin told us about when he started working with Ngern Tid Lor 9 years ago:

“When I first came to Ngern Tid Lor, I was assigned to work in proactive sales because at that time, the company wanted to expand its customer base to small-medium size of factories. At first, I had to adapt to deal with culture shock in a new job because I had worked with a foreign company earlier and was used to engineering terms, large industrial plants, and foreign customers. Here, I needed to learn finance language to be able to talk to small-medium plant owners, targeted truck loan customers of Ngern Tid Lor. I felt pressured, even though no one actually pressured me.”

Although Theewin’s career path seemed smooth, as the team performance went well in getting leads and truck loans grew considerably, not to mention a good supervisor and colleagues, he felt that what he was doing was not who he really was. So, he decided to submit a resignation letter.

“When I decided to resign, the company underwent a change as Mr. Piyasak Ukritnukun was promoted to Managing Director. He called every team in to have a one-on-one talk in order to understand what each team was doing. I told him that when collected leads; I wrote them down on a piece of paper and entered information in Excel sheet later. He, thus, advised me to first try to learn more about Lead Management System and to jointly work with IT team on designing and developing an effective Lead Management System to store customer data systematically. This should be more beneficial to my work system, as well as my team and the organization.”

His advice not only opened up an opportunity for Theewin to step into the world of data analytics, it was also the beginning of Ngern Tid Lor’s commitment to collect and analyze data.

Opportunity to Broaden View and Build Friendship

Theewin was also given an opportunity to broaden his horizons as he was invited to join the Warroom team. The team gathered people from cross functions to work closely together, allowing them to talk and exchange ideas in an open and candid manner.

“When I was first assigned to work in data collection and analytics, I may have prioritized data that mainly concerned my department without looking at the organization as a whole. But, the Warroom team helped me understand from other departments and my colleagues’ view. It also enabled me to broaden my own view, making me realize that looking at things from a wider perspective would better benefit the organization and help build up people in the organization to grow more sustainably.”

Opportunity to Upskill and Pass on Knowledge

With his thirst for wisdom, Theewin was able to seize an opportunity to travel the USA to complete the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt training course, which would allow him to perform more efficiently and pass on what he learned to other colleagues in the organization.

“My Lean Six Sigma team and I have been teaching Lean Six Sigma to our colleagues for 4 years. To date, more than 400 people have completed a Yellow Belt program and about 80 people have completed a Green Belt theory program. There are about 20 people who have successfully completed their own projects and 10 people are working on projects.

There are 4 Black Belts in my team, helping me train other colleagues who are becoming leaders in their own functions at Ngern Tid Lor. The training aims to enhance their ability to understand work processes, measure performance, and analyze data to identify the root cause of problems. It also teaches how to use information to fix defects and create new processes to reduce the waste of company resources and stabilize processes.”

Opportunity to Build People to Build an Organization

Since the Analytics & Development (A&D) department was founded at Ngern Tid Lor, both Theewin and his team have been assigned to lead a wider range of projects. As a result, not only has the A&D grown over the years, the importance of data and the amount of data collected have also increased each day. At the same time, this adds a challenge for Theewin in regards to building people and building a team.

“In the past, I always worked alone. Ngern Tid Lor was the first that gave me the opportunity to have a team. It is already difficult to work to meet my own expectations, but working in a team is even more challenging. And, the biggest challenge is to drive my team members to success, to help them grow and be accepted when working with others.”

However, Ngern Tid Lor has core values that help screen for people with those same values, as well as a corporate culture that helps guide our ways of thinking, beliefs, and behaviors to align with these values.

Opportunities to grow and achieve success are thus available for people with our shared values to grab throughout their career path at Ngern Tid Lor.
